Scratching and biting hair off
Q: I have a one yr old black and white chihuahua. for the last 6 months has been scratchinhg and biting her hair of completely from feet, legs backside. she is on advantix and is free of fleas. her vet has her on predisone 1/2 pill every three days now. also bendadryl 25mg 1/4 daily. bathe with oatmeal shampoo. i know allergy testing is next, but thought doggie prozac might be next. also she slows down on the biting and scratching when my daughter holds her (lap dog) are we doing the right thing with this treatment or what do you advise? save my chloe!!!!
A: Allergy testing does appear to be the next step of the process.
Shop for: advantix

Rash and bumps all over upper back
Q: My dog half pitbull ter/ dalmation has rash on both legs, bumps all over her back always bitting and scratching notice after giving her bath with baby shampoo.she is mostly outside and it get reallllly hotttt she moves around and stays in the shade but it get real humid outside i live in puerto rico it's forever hot
A: Sounds like secondary bacterial infection which might need oral antibiotics so should see vet who can also rule out mange by skin scrape. if negative likely underyling allergies. in meantime try chlorihexiderm shampoo from 1800petmeds every few days as well as oral benadryl at dose of 1/2 to 1 mg per pound orally twice daily to see if help with ithcing
Shop for: 1800petmeds

Parvo or allergy?
Q: We gave our 3 month old pupies a flea bath. and our only female stared getting sick. she wont come when we call, she lays around, she wont eat, she has diarrea, and is very thin. if its parvo we already delt with it with the pups' mother. but the other 3 pups are fine, and we can't figure out whats going on. the father dog never had parvo. so any light on the subject could help. thanks for any help.
A: Could be reaction to flea bath so might want to rinse dog in baby shampoo and rinse off. also could be parasite or otehr virus. take to vet for evaluation

Flea collars and frontline plus
Q: Our cats have been infested with fleas for about 2 weeks, and we put sergeant's flea collars on them, to no avail. would it be safe to start using frontline plus on them now? if not, how long should we wait? thank you.
A: Remove the collars and apply the frontline plus.
Shop for: frontline plus, frontline

Raised red spots
Q: I have a 8yr old golden that has 4 to 6 elliptical red spots the size of a quarter on her belly along with other redish splotches (not raised) but very irritated and itchy. this looked a bit like typical hot spots but seem to mostly dissipate in a few hours after an anti-itch shampoo. i'm also wondering about some fungus similar to ringworm but there seems to be no loss of hair at these areas. she had been to the groomer recently and we suspect some infection while in a kennel, etc. any ideas?
A: Does not sound like ringworm. likely an bacterial infection from allergies. sounds like may need antibiotics from your vet in addition to allergy treatment
Shop for: ringworm

Flea bite allergy
Q: I have an 11 year old female cat in very good health, vet checked couple of months ago. she weights 7lbs, small cat. when biten by a flea, she reacts by constantly cleaning herself, loses her fur on her belly and around her hind legs. the vet gave her a shot which relieved the cleaning compulsion almost immediately. now it is happening again. what should i do. what meds, shampoo etc. thank you.
A: Try oral chlorphenirmine at dose of 2 mg twice daily as well as adding derm caps from 1800petmeds to her food. also consider 1800petmeds aloe vera and oatmeal shampoo an deconditioner. this is better alternative in this aged cat than long acting cortisone shots
Shop for: 1800petmeds, derm caps
