Excessive licking of anus/vulva
Q: My min-pin is constantly licking her private parts. i wonder if she has picked up an allergy from grass? she is in the house most of the time. is there any thing i can do like bath her in baking soda?
A: You could try bathing in corticalm shampoo from 1800petmeds a few times a week which can help with allergic skin disease as well as try benadryl at 1/2 children's benadryl twice daily. if no help see your vet for stronger meds
Shop for: 1800petmeds

K9 advantix vs biospot vs frontline plus
Q: Hi, it looks like from your chart that biospot does more than the rest. we have bad mosquitos here in chicago and i worry about them as much as fleas and ticks. also, it seems like you recommend frontline more, why? and, does biospot wash off completely after bathing. what if you put it on and don't bath the dog for a few days? will it stay on the rest of the month then? thanks for all your help. we have a golden retriever that is 60 pounds. sherri
A: K-9 advantix is completely waterproof. biospot will begin to loose effectiveness after shampooing. i recommend frontline plus based on my experience, but if you need mosquito control as well, you should use k-9 advantix.
Shop for: biospot, advantix, frontline, tick

Ear mites & mange
Q: I have my dog back and forth to the vet for a few months now. first i was told she had earmites and that she had to have a series of shots which she had. she has had revolution, special shampoos, then all of a sudden i'm being told she has another kind of a mite. and so were starting all over again. this has been going on now for at least 4 months. the last thing that they did lasted for about 3 weeks. i was told the problem was over and done with but $500 plus dollars later i still have the problem. i called and told these so called vets and they said bring her back. i said do i have to pay more money for her to be looked at again for the same problem they said was over with and of course i was told yes i don't think that this was very fair especially for someone who is disabled and on a very, very fixed income, but they showed how much they care about animals the only thing they cared about was more money. it does not matter if the dog is suffering all over again. i have no more money that is the gods honest truth. i would like to know what i could get that would help her? her biggest problem is that her hair is falling out and she has a really bad odor. so far her ears seem to be ok. please, please help me i don't know what else to do except take her to a shelter so they can take care of her so shes not suffering. that is the last thing in the world i want to do she is such a lovable, smart, wonderful companion, but i wont let her suffer. please please help me. thank you very much for letting me take up your time. and if anyone would like to know who this so called vet is i would be more than happy to tell them. thanks again.
A: Sorry about your experiences as it soudns like best thing is for vet dermatologist to have looked at dog and you would not be going through all of this. best i can suggest is chlorihexiderm shampoo from 1800petmeds used every few days and also use aloe vera conditioner from them as well. try blue ear ointment for any ear issues www.itsfortheanimals.com which you can buy your own ingredients
Shop for: 1800petmeds, revolution

Itching
Q: I have a 7 yr old pekiness we have changed his diet from red meat to chicken and lamb dry dog food and he gets five small pieces of canned wet food at night of either chicken or lamb. we give him a bath about once every three weeks because we live in the country and goes thur trees and loves to roll in the dirt and go to the garden. i need to know what i can do to help stop his itching. i've tried about seven different shampoos and still no help. help!!!
A: Need vet visit to have skin scrape to make sure no mange mites as well as evaluation for underyling allergies such as food, seasonal inhalent allergies flea bite allergies, etc try corticare shampoo every few days from 1800petmeds until vet visit as well as oral benadryl at dose of 1/2 mg per pound orally twice daily
Shop for: 1800petmeds

Flea bite allergy
Q: I have an 11 year old female cat in very good health, vet checked couple of months ago. she weights 7lbs, small cat. when biten by a flea, she reacts by constantly cleaning herself, loses her fur on her belly and around her hind legs. the vet gave her a shot which relieved the cleaning compulsion almost immediately. now it is happening again. what should i do. what meds, shampoo etc. thank you.
A: Try oral chlorphenirmine at dose of 2 mg twice daily as well as adding derm caps from 1800petmeds to her food. also consider 1800petmeds aloe vera and oatmeal shampoo an deconditioner. this is better alternative in this aged cat than long acting cortisone shots
Shop for: 1800petmeds, derm caps

Really bad smelly dog
Q: I have a cocker/schitzu mix 10 years old. he has been on antibiotics for this problem but still smells so bad. the vet said not to bathe him too often , but yuck. he is raw only on his underside. i have done the oatmeal bathes too. help!!!!!!!!!! please!!!!!!!!! could it be something else? sincerely, beth
A: I bet you he has yeast overgrowth on his skin given the breed mix he is. have vet check for this; antibiotics dont helpthis but an oral drug like ketaconazole can as well as antifungal shampoos

Mange or not
Q: Have a after running him the other day he started scratching and has lost hair on his back in spots and has rash on his ears belly bald spots on his legs.what kind of medication could i get for him/
A: Could be likely allergies but cant be sure about mange without skin scrape at vet. you could try cortisoothe shampoo every few days from 1800petmeds in addition to oral benadryl at dose of 1/2 to 1 mg per pound twice daily. if no help see your vet
Shop for: 1800petmeds

Product comparison
Q: Does the flea and tick meds that you purchase in the store like hartz flea and tick drops plus that you apply from the shoulder blades to the tail wofk as well as the ones you get from the vet? such as frontline sentinal etc. and do you know how long you have to wait before shampooing your dog with the hartz drops? sincerelt joan walton
A: Check the label on the hartz mountain product for information about removal with shampooing. if it suggests that shampooing will reduce the efficacy, i would shampoo twice, wait a week, and apply the frontline. by the way, we carry frontline and every other product available from your veterinarian, at guaranteed savings at the time of purchase. frontline and other professional flea and tick products do not require a prescription.
Shop for: frontline, tick
